FUNCTIONS OF THE OFFICE
The function of the Office of the Market and Slaughterhouse Administrator under the direct supervision of the Local Chief Executive, includes overseeing and managing the operations and regulations of the marketplaces and slaughterhouse.
These functions include:
• Regulatory Compliance: Developing and enforcing market code, regulations, standards and guidelines for the public market and slaughterhouse to ensure compliance with health, safety and animal welfare requirements.
• Processing and Permitting: Receiving and processing applications for contracts and permits related to market and slaughterhouse operations. This may involve conducting inspections, verifying qualifications and issuing permits to eligible individuals or businesses.
• Inspections and Audits: Conducting regular inspections and audits to all market and slaughterhouse stallholders, businesses, and meat dealers to ensure compliance with regulations, sanitary practices and proper handling of animal products.
• Public Health and Safety: Implementing measures to protect public health and safety, including monitoring the quality and safety of products sold in the market and other business establishments, addressing food safety concerns, and handling disease control measures in slaughterhouses.
• Stallholder Management: Collaborating with various stallholders such as vendors, traders, farmers, and consumer groups to address concerns, resolve disputes, and foster positive relationships within the market and slaughterhouse community.
• Market Development: Promoting the development and growth of markets by identifying initiatives that enhance the market experience for both vendors and consumers.
• Data Collection and Analysis: Gathering data on market and slaughterhouse activities, such as sales volume, pricing trends, and customer preferences, to identify market dynamics, evaluate performance, and inform decision-making process.
• Revenue Collection and Recording: Collection of monthly rentals, fees, and charges from various clients. Recording data and information to be reported upon.
