Birthing FrontLast January 19, 2015, the BEmONC/Birthing Home fBEmONC Bldgacility formally opened to the public. This is a joint project between the local government of Mariveles and DOH’s HFEP (Health Facility Enhancement Program). Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, the Regional Director of DOH REGION 3 sent her representative, Dr. Juliana Reyes OIC, Assistant Regional Director and Head of DOH Licensing Division to formally turn over the facility to the Local Government of Mariveles under the Municipal Health Office. Guests present during the ceremony were Sangguniang Bayan Members, Barangay representatives, Municipal Administrator Luis Gonzales, Provincial Health Office representatives, Provincial Health Technical Office team, DOH representative, Municipal Health Office Staff and Hon. Mayor Jesse I. Concepcion.

Inside Birthing HomeThe Birthing Home Facility aims to encourage Birthing Frontnormal delivery for uncomplicated pregnancies to be handled by trained Municipal Health Staff in a safe facility to prevent and eventually eradicate maternal and child mortality in the municipality. Other services provided by the Birthing Home include family planning, prenatal services, immunization for newborn, laboratory services, newborn screening and counseling. The MHO is on the process of accreditation by PhilHealth so that members can avail of the maternal and newborn package for free. For non-PhilHealth members they will only pay minimal cost recovery charges.

It is expected that by the end of the Aquino administration, maternal and child mortality will be reduced by 50%. The local Government of Mariveles through its Municipal Health Office supports the campaign to cut maternal and child mortality dramatically through its health programs and that includes the establishment of a Birthing Home Facility.
